On Tuesday November 17, 2009, during a visit to the US Air Force Academy to award Doss Aviation, Inc. with their 5 year Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) Diamond Award, FAA Safety Inspector Richard F. Hosker and Gina Moretto, Aviation Safety Program Manager, announced this year’s winner of the AMT of the Year for the Colorado and Wyoming geographical area was Doss Aviation employee, Joe Morales.
Each year for more than four decades, the FAA General Aviation Awards program recognizes aviation professionals for their contributions to aviation, education, and flight safety. The program, a cooperative effort between the FAA and more than a dozen industry sponsors, aims to identify individuals on the local, regional, and national levels in several categories; Certificated Flight Instructor (CFI) of the Year, Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) of the Year, Avionics Technician of the Year, and FAA Safety Team Representative of the Year (previously known as the Aviation Safety Counselor of the Year).
Morales will be submitted to represent the FAA’s Denver Flight Standards District Office on a regional and national level, with awards at those levels being announced later in 2010. The National AMT of the Year Award winner will be presented their award during an all-expense paid vacation to Oshkosh Wisconsin, during the yearly Oshkosh Air Show. Morales will receive his award during the Denver FSDO Awards Banquet in March, 2010.
Joe has been employed for over 31 years in the aviation industry and worked at several manufacturers, FAA Repair Stations and General Aviation Facilities. Aside from holding an A&P certificate, Joe is also holds an IA (Inspection Authorization) and is a CFI. Joe is employed by Doss Aviation Inc. as their Quality Control Manager/Chief Inspector on the US Air Force Academy Aircraft Maintenance and Sailplane Towing maintenance and logistics support contract.
