Pre-Initial Flight Training (IFT)
The Pre-IFT Program is conducted at Doss Aviation's Part 141 Flight Training Center in Raton, New Mexico and includes 5 sorties and includes a DA-20 flight to the IFT facility in Pueblo, Colorado for a visit and tour of our IFT campus.

The Pre-Initial Flight Training is one week in duration. Flight training is planned for Monday through Saturday, but could go through the weekend if weather becomes a factor.

Doss Aviation uses the Diamond DA-20-C1 aircraft. The DA-20 aircraft is a proven platform for introductory flight training. “The DA20 has been called both the “world’s best” (Plane and Pilot Magazine) and “world’s safest” trainer (AviationConsumer.com). “ Doss Aviation, with more than 280,000 flight hours over an 11-year period training in this aircraft, has an accident rate at one third that in general aviation.
The aircraft is configured with a reverse stick and throttle cockpit such that student has the throttle in the left hand and the control stick in the right hand similar to the T-6 aircraft.

No. the Pre-IFT syllabus is not the same as Air Force IFT. However, the syllabus is designed to fully prepare students for success in the formal IFT course, and uses the same flight instructors, the same flight training aircraft as used in IFT.
Successfully complete the ground and flight training programs
Military flight training is distinctly different from civilian flight training. Military flight training is procedurally based while civilian flying is more hands on. This program provides exposure to professional military style flight training, and specifically prepares students for success at IFT. Students will have the same type of instructor pilots and will use the same DA-20 aircraft as IFT. Additionally, our program is designed to best prepare aviation officers for success in UPT and follow on stages of Air Force flight training in the T-6 aircraft.
This training provides an early opportunity to identify weaknesses for improvement before your formal flight training process starts. We also recognize that on occasion anyone can have a bad day! We provide additional flights in the training syllabus as appropriate on a case by case basis.
